Digital environmental media through social networks and its role in achieving sustainable development

Abstract

Environmental media, as researchers imply, is an effective platform with constructive criticism for decision-makers that pushes them to include the environmental dimension in all development plans.
Looking at the Arab media environment, we find that the field of environmental media is an emerging field. Developing on that, this study deals with digital environmental media through social networks as an important and effective means in bringing about the sustainable development process. Hence, the study applies an analytical approach to study the new media by monitoring and exploring samples of environmental pages and environmental associations active through Twitter platform.
This could be used as a model for digital environmental media activities to develop an awareness of environmental issues and problems through deepening the citizens’ sense of responsibility towards the environment. In addition to publishing concepts related to sustainable development following the increase in social, economic, and political pressures on the environment. This is based on the striking need of societies to support environmental knowledge by tackling the effects of disasters, environmental pollution incidents, and climate change on social and economic conditions.
