Abstract

As the situation and the war between Palestine-Israel is escalating, with the noticeable development in the new media tools in news coverage like live streaming for the news as it is characterized by Real Time option, there has become a relationship between the exposure to media coverage about Palestine-Israel war and psychological toughness among people especially university youth. The study also reviewed the three dimensions of psychological toughness which are consistency, Control, and Resilience, and how they are affected by exposure to different types of news coverage about the current situation as written news, Pictures and videos including bloody, violent and difficult scenes, or live coverage of the events, and this may have positive or negative effects.
The study relied on the use of the focus group discussion tool through a sample of media students at various Egyptian universities and institutes, the sample includes 35 students, divided into 7 focus group discussion. The results of the study concluded that university youth are exposed extensively to the news coverage about the Palestine-Israel war, through all types of different sources, like written news, or pictures and videos that contain violent scenes, through various media tools, either traditional or new media, and this coverage could have positive or negative impact on psychological toughness.
