Abstract

The aim of the research is to identify the attitudes of university youth towards the contents of crime news published through the new media and its cognitive, emotional and behavioral effects on them, as well as to identify the role of these means in realizing the reality of crime, and what are the factors that limit their negative effects as a result of their publication. The research adopted the descriptive approach, Using the survey sheet and the two measures of influence and attitudes, on a sample of university youth consisting of 401 individuals, male and female, The results of the research concluded: There is a positive correlation between the volume and motives of youth exposure to crime and the cognitive, emotional and behavioral impact on them, in addition to the presence of a positive correlation between the volume of exposure to crime news on the new media and awareness of its reality among university youth, while there are statistically significant differences between youth In influencing their attitudes as a result of exposure to crime news through the new media, 92% of the respondents believe that the new media have a role in the spread of manifestations of violence in society as a result of the publication of crime news.
