media educators and practitioners attitudes towards gender gap of leader & high positions in the Egyptian media and the suggestion of closing this gap based on the integration of SDGS

Abstract

This research examines the media educators and practitioners attitudes towards under-representation of women leaders (gender gap) in the Egyptian media, with concern of women in media education and in labour force, this research depend on the glass ceiling concept to explain the  institutional and social discrimination toward women leaders , but also elaborate the country’s role to encourage women empowerment, in the end the media educators  and practitioners evaluate the suggestion of teaching the concept of gender as a higher education in mass communication faculties, which achieve the merge of the SDGs, the research depend on depth interviews with 31 media educators and practitioners.
the Most important findings:
  Based on insights from most of the sample, Egyptian women in media faced gender gap in the leader position, the most important reason is false stereotype of women as a leader followed by  lack leading training and the challenges women face in workplace like harassment and aggression, some of the sample which refused gender gap state that its because women didn’t apply for this position.
Most of the sample trust women are capable of being  leaders even some of them think she can lead better than men.
Half of the sample agree with the suggestion of the concept of gender as a higher education in mass communication faculties. because of its role in combining SDG and raising the awareness of gender equality
