The use of digital media and its relationship to the development of media skills of mass communication students

Abstract

The study has aimed to determine the impact of mass communication students' use of digital media on the development of their media skills." The study has relied on the quantitative survey method; it has used the online questionnaire tool applying to an intentional sample of 400 students of mass communication faculties in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who use digital media from various social, cultural and economic levels. The study has relied on the uses and effects theory.
Main results:
1.     The majority of mass communication students use digital media continuously by (93.5%), and depend on digital media to a large extent by (60.2%).
2.     The smartphone is the main digital device that students use to follow digital media by (99%).3.     The majority of students have high reasons to use digital media by (67.3%), interact permanently with their colleagues through digital media by (76%), and trust in the information published on digital media to a moderate degree by (66%).4.     There is a statistically significant relationship between the rates of students' use of digital media and the development of their media skills.5.     There is a statistically significant relationship between the extent of students' trust in the information published on the digital media and the development of their media skills.6.
