The Effect of Social Media on Interfaith Dialogue:

Abstract


 
Research Topic: The research studies the role of social media in building bridges between cultures, through interfaith dialogue by focusing on Interfaith Centers. Although there are those who blame social media and online games for extremism and violent ideas, on the other hand there are those who view them as means of intercultural exchange and unity leading to limiting violence and spreading peace.    
Research Objective: To fill in the literature gap of interfaith dialogue in communication studies, and highlight the importance of dialogue on social media.
Research Methodology: The research utilized the descriptive analytical approach of four dialogue centers, by collecting the tweets of each center, and studying their reaction after the New Zealand incident.
Key Results: The study reveals the roots of interfaith dialogue problem through the lack of interactive dialogue, rather it is a one-way communication with the public.
Recommendations: The importance of public awareness of the role of social media in rejecting hatred and racism, and to promote interactive dialogue through empowering interfaith leaders with greater skills and ability to utilize social media in unity and dissemination of peace.
