The Role of Digital Media in activating Political Participation of The University Youth

Abstract

This research seeks to study the role Digital media plays in activating the political participation of Egyptian university students, applying to the 2015 parliamentary elections This study relies on the sample survey method, which is an intentional sample of Egyptian university students represented by (Sinai University) as a model for students in border regions and private universities, (Cairo University) as a model for urban students, and (Al-Azhar University) as a model for religious education and (Academy of Arts) as a model for education.
1-The results of the study showed the role that digital media plays in activating political participation, This was evident through the political participation of young people through digital media, most notably sending political videos via Facebook and YouTube.
2-One of the most important political issues, Brotherhood issues and the arrest of terrorist cells, due to the political conditions that the country is going through, most notably the war on terror.
3-It was found that there is a difference between university students and the existence of statistically significant differences between Sinai University students (as a model for students of private universities and the border places represented in North Sinai) compared to Cairo University students (as a model for students of public universities and the capital's society) in the use of digital media.
