Abstract

This study aimed to monitor and analyse the priorities of Arab and foreign issues covered through data journalism techniques. The study is carried out to compare between the first website specialized in data journalism in the Middle East, Info Times, and the first global website specialized in data journalism, Guardian Data. In addition, the study mainly identifies the geographic scope of both sites, the type and source of data used, and the main purposes of presenting these data.
The researcher relied on the study of interrelationships and the survey methodology. Hence, an analytical study was conducted on all press stories related to data journalism in both sites during the period from January 1, 2016, to September 30, 2018. The study concluded that Guardian Data ranked first in terms of the number of topics covered through data journalism tools. However, in terms of issues that data journalism was concerned with, the social issues ranked first in both sites. It was followed by economic issues, then political issues, and sports issues.
The study also found that local issues were at the forefront of both data journalism platforms, followed by international issues, and finally regional issues.
