The semiology of Citizenship Values in the covers of Arab Children's Magazines: A Comparative Study between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Sudan

Abstract

 
The research problem is formed by observing, analysing, and interpreting the values of citizenship presented in the covers of the Arab children's magazines understudy: “Samir” magazine published in Egypt and “Simsma” magazine published in Sudan - during the period from January 2017 to June 2018. This research aims to study the treatment of the citizenship values in the covers of the magazines under study, and the linguistic and non-linguistic symbols used to express them.
Moreover, the researcher uses the semiological analysis tool to interpret the meanings, direct and indirect meanings of symbols, methods of persuasion, and propaganda used in presenting citizenship values on the covers of the children's magazines under study.

The importance of the role of children's magazines as a means of media, shaping the values of citizenship among children, as they read them frequently for a long period of their lives.
The study uses semiological analysis, which enables the researcher to perform the qualitative analysis, as well as extract some quantitative results that can be useful in enriching the study using them.
