Abstract

This paper is considered a recent study on Iraqi society, addressing the exposure of the Iraqi public to negative news. It monitors the intensity, nature, style, and goals of this exposure, and its relationship to their mood in light of the mood management theory. This theory indicates that individuals have the drive to organize their lives in a way that increases their sense of happiness and reduces their sense of frustration and this regulation may take place without awareness or intention.
Therefore, this research paper came to address a problem represented by the absence of an Iraqi media research that tackled the issue of moods and their possibility of being affected by the negative media contents broadcasted on different media outlets including the satellite television channels. According to numerous Iraqi studies in the field of visual media, Television is the most followed medium by the Iraqi public. Moreover, the research problem is centered on the following question: What is the reflection of the audience exposure to the negative news broadcast by the satellite TV channels on their general mood?
