Abstract

The study aimed to identify the procedures followed by generation-z, to verify the accuracy of news on social media sites and their relationship to self - categorization, It is a descriptive study that was conducted using the media survey methods. An online questionnaire was administered to a sample of 500 individuals from generation- z, aged between 13: 27 years, who are active users of social media platforms. One of the key findings reveled that generation z shows significant interest in using social media to obtain information about current events, with 66% of the total sample, Facebook ranked first in usage at 91%, followed by Instagram at 55.6%, The study confirmed the validity of the hypothesis stating the existence of a statistically significant correlation between participants' interest in using social media to obtain information on current events and the (internal/ external) procedures of news verification. However, no statistically significant correlation was found between participants' interest in using social media for current event information and the motives for verification-namely preserving self- image or maintaining group cohesion.
