The role of open data sources in developing journalistic content for news websites about modern diseases and its impact on Egyptian public opinion: A case study on depression

Abstract

The developments in communication technology that the press industry has recently witnessed have led to the production of new journalistic sources that can be relied upon to obtain various information in various fields. Among these sources are “unconventional open data sources” that play an important role in presenting, interpreting and commenting on information to prepare the general climate for solidarity with the crisis and the method of managing it, as open sources have become a reflection of society and express the hopes and aspirations of their audience, in addition to the fact that they can transform their readers and listeners from mere recipients of the message to interacting with it.
Keeping pace with the era of Big Data available on the Internet is essential for journalists, in order to create news stories from the piles of data that fill databases, knowledge banks, and "open data" platforms and portals, which is a modern trend established by some Arab governments and international bodies to make knowledge available to all individuals, in addition to journalists benefiting from various open data sources in producing news stories rich in details and documented in various fields such as energy and environment projects, education, health, communication technology, economy, and others.
Within the framework of the above, the study seeks to know the role of open data sources in developing the journalistic content of news websites about modern diseases, a case study on depression, as through open sources, news websites can provide updated and accurate information about depression based on reliable data.
