Abstract

This study aims to monitor and analyze modern trends in research on disseminating media and digital literacy culture among university youth at the level of Arab and foreign studies from various research schools worldwide during the period from 2013 to 2023. This study falls under the category of descriptive analytical research, relying on the Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis approaches.
In this context, both quantitative and qualitative analyses were employed. The quantitative analysis involves tracking the theories used in the research, types of methodologies, data collection tools, sample types, and the academic schools to which the analyzed studies belong. Meanwhile, the qualitative analysis examines research topics and issues in media and digital literacy at both the Arab and international levels, such as the dissemination of media literacy concepts and values, educational technology, the effectiveness of social media in media and digital literacy, the integration of digital media literacy into curricula, and the assessment of the evolution of topics and trends in this field over the years.
Additionally, the study extracts key knowledge, methodological, and theoretical contributions and provides a critical, comparative analysis of American, European, Asian, and Arab research schools to identify areas that require development in Arab studies. It also focuses on identifying and analyzing the challenges that hinder the dissemination of media and digital literacy culture, as well as the opportunities offered by technology to improve media literacy teaching methods and develop its skills, such as the use of artificial intelligence techniques.
The study primarily seeks to analyze the differences and similarities between Arab and foreign research, propose new research areas based on identified gaps, and ultimately present a future research agenda for Arab scholars. This agenda aims to maximize the benefits of research in promoting media and digital literacy culture and developing related skills among young people in particular.
