Abstract:
The research aims to examine the impact of new media on Egyptian youth through two main concepts: "Infomania" and "Glocalization." The research problem lies in analyzing the influence of digital social platforms on Egyptian youth amidst the interplay between these two concepts. The study explores whether these platforms promote positive interaction between global and local contexts or contribute to youth distraction due to the constant flow of information.
The study employed the survey method, utilizing a questionnaire administered to a sample of 307 Egyptian youths. Key findings include that infomania leads to excessive information consumption, resulting in psychological stress and attention distraction. Conversely, glocalization fosters interaction between global elements and local cultural contexts. The study also revealed that Egyptian youth suffer from the erosion of their cultural identity due to increased exposure to information. This underscores the challenge of striking a balance between benefiting from information and preserving cultural identity.
