Abstract

The authority realized that free media is an influential force in supporting democratic practice, so It tried to weaken this force by imposing censorship, and obstructing access to sources of information, in addition to exercising economic pressure.
This was reflected in the professional performance of the media, and also made them lose credibility for presenting biased and inaccurate content. In an attempt to confront government restrictions, the digital media provided an alternative virtual public sphere that created safer spaces in which participants could discuss what was left unsaid.
