Abstract

Abstract:
The current study aims to identify the media Farming through which Emirati news websites (Al-Ittihad - Al-Khaleej) presented the proceedings of the COP28 conference to shed light on the most important issues addressed, as well as the solutions derived from the conference that could help understand how to present climate change issues and shape public perceptions thereof. The study relied on content analysis as a tool to identify the strategies of the frames presented in the media coverage, as well as the sources relied upon by the websites covering the conference.
The study found a diversity of frames (Episodic, Thematic, mixed) adopted by Emirati websites in covering the COP28 conference, with a greater emphasis on relying on local journalistic sources. The frame of responsibility dominated the journalistic coverage, and the prominent solutions presented included international cooperation, financing, the establishment of treaties and agreements, and reliance on renewable energy. The study revealed a relationship between the sampled websites and the type of frame used in coverage, the strategies of these frames, and solution frames.
