Abstract

This study aimed to shed light on news coverage using the solutions journalism approach as a tool to support efforts to confront climate change through a field study on journalists specializing in environmental and climate affairs in Egyptian print and digital newspapers. The researchers relied on the intentional sampling method in collecting data for the current study, where they Conducting in-depth interviews with 10 editors specialized in covering environmental and climate affairs in Egyptian newspapers and websites.
The development of interest in environmental journalism at the global level and the increase in public awareness of environmental and climate issues came at the forefront of the reasons and motivations for the interest of the editors in the study sample to work in the field of climate journalism and specialize in it, knowing that this interest is based on self-motivation and a personal desire among the editors to develop each of them’s professional skills, in In light of the lack of sufficient interest from editorial departments in newspapers and news websites in directing and supporting journalists in developing their skills and addressing important areas in journalistic work, the interviews also showed that editors agreed on a set of important aspects that highlight the vital role of solutions journalism in dealing with climate change, the most prominent of which is that journalism Solutions are an important tool for the state in confronting climate change, through their contribution to stimulating climate initiatives and efforts.
