Abstract

The aim of this study was to monitor, criticize and analyze the mechanisms of bias in the theses of the American newspapers 'discourse towards the war on Gaza, the consequences of this war, the tools of bias in the American newspapers' discourse, its strategies, and analyze the methods of bias in the formulation of news, in the light of the Israeli and Palestinian narratives. This critical study used critical discourse analysis to analyze and critique the mechanisms of bias in the discourse of American newspapers towards the Israeli war on Gaza. The study community was represented in American newspapers from October 7, 2023 for three months to January 6, 2024.
The results of the study came up with a number of theses from which the speech of American newspapers was launched, including the description, interpretation and analysis of the crisis, international support for Israel, the thesis of condemning Hamas and its isolation from Palestine and the international community, warning of the expansion of the scope of the war, in addition to the political and economic repercussions, the thesis of displacement and the crisis of the displaced.
The mechanisms of bias in the discourse of American newspapers have varied, as newspapers have worked to frame the conflict, bias in the selection of correspondents, focusing on one-sided victims, the use of terminology, omitting the context of events, and the domination of the Israeli narrative while justifying its attacks and assaults and demonizing the Palestinians in favor of the Israeli narrative.
There are multiple mechanisms of bias in the methods of news drafting, by making the events of October 7 as the main focus in the drafting of the experience, using Hamas as a source when covering the Israeli strikes, in addition to using broad headlines that serve the Israeli narrative, while obscuring the coverage to blur the Palestinian narrative.
