Abstract

The study mainly aims to monitor and analyse television news coverage by Arab female correspondents of the events of the Israeli war on Gaza in 2023. By identifying five television news channels which are: (Al-Jazeera - Al-Arabiya - AlQahera News - Al-Hurra Channel - France 24), and by using a qualitative content analysis tool, a comparative method between the five channels and applying “Laswell model”, the analysis reveals the interest of the study channels in relying on a group of female correspondents (21 female correspondents), whose nationalities varied between Palestinian, Lebanese, Egyptian, Iraqi and Jordanian women, to cover the events of the war on Gaza in general, but the size of this reliance varies from one channel to another. The study finds that the channels’ orientations has a significant impact on the active forces in the coverage and the characteristics of their roles in events, the use of sources, and the semantics of words in coverage for example: The analysis indicates that Al Jazeera’s and AlQahera News’ correspondents are clearly biased towards the Palestinian side while France 24 and Al-Hurra channels are obviously biased towards the Israeli side, in addition to that the coverage of the correspondents in (Al-Arabiya Channel) are characterized by balanced presentation and diversification in coverage.
