Abstract

The study seeks to know the degree of dependence of Egyptian university youth on the podcast technology "audio blogging" to provide information, and to know the fields that Egyptian youth follow, and the most prominent channels and applications that they follow. In addition to trying to identify the cognitive, emotional and behavioral effects of using this technique among the Egyptian university youth.
The study relies on the survey method and the questionnaire tool to be applied to a deliberate sample of podcast followers through the various applications of 400 individuals from Egyptian university youth. The researcher relied on the approach of Media Dependency, where the degree of dependence of the public on media is the basis for understanding the impact of media messages on beliefs, knowledge, feeling and behavior, and by applying this technology, which is very popular among the youth.
The results of the study revealed an increase in the utilitarian motives of the respondents, which aim to acquire knowledge and information and develop the ability to learn as well as the individual's self-improvement, between benefiting from the amount of information provided by the podcast channels and that the information provided by the podcast helps to raise the level of self-awareness, as the respondents assured that the first and most important reason for following podcasts is that they benefit from information, which indicates the importance of podcasts as a source of information in providing knowledge to the public quickly and within reach, commensurate with the current era.
The results also showed that one of the most important features that increase users’ follow-up to podcasts is the ease of use and download, in addition to the diversity of content between different fields and the renewal of ideas, in addition to entertainment, entertainment, enjoyment, and certainly improving the mood. This is consistent with what the theory of media dependency assumes, where individuals differ in the degree of their dependence on the media as a result of their differences on individual goals, interests and needs.
