Abstract

This research has aimed to examine the relationship between the intensity of the Egyptian adolescents' exposure to traditional and digital media and their concept of role model, by investigating the following influencing factors: the Egyptian adolescents' motives of exposure to traditional and digital media, the level of their attention during the exposure, the level of their awareness of the realism of content, the level of their interaction during the exposure, and their demographic variables.
This research is a comparative one; it has been concerned with examining the Egyptian adolescents' concept of role model, by comparing between their exposure to traditional media and digital one. It has used the survey method, both descriptive and analytical, as well as the questionnaire tool applying to 400 adolescents.
The results have assured that there were statistically significant differences between the Egyptian adolescents' according to their intensive exposure to traditional media regarding their role model concept; the differences came between the respondents with heavy, low and moderate exposure to traditional media in favor of the respondents with low exposure, while there were no significant differences between the Egyptian adolescents' according to their intensive exposure to digital media regarding their role model concept.
The results have added that excluding the effect of each of the adolescents' functional and ritual motives of exposure to traditional media, the level of their attention and interaction during the exposure, in addition to the level of their awareness of the realism of content, led to the weakening of the causal relationship between the intensity of Egyptian adolescents' exposure to traditional and digital media and their concept of role model, while excluding the effect of the respondent's demographic variables (age, educational level, socio-economic level and environment) led to the strengthening of this relationship.
