Social Media and their role in promoting the values of citizenship among Egyptian youth

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the role of social media in promoting the values of citizenship among Egyptian youth, and to identify the most prominent issues that young people are keen to follow through the various social media, by conducting a survey on a sample of Egyptian youth estimated at about (400) individuals using a tool The questionnaire, and the importance of the study is evident in its discussion of a vital topic whose effects are reflected on Arab societies and their political systems, which is the issue of citizenship among Egyptian youth, and the importance of social media in influencing society, especially the youth group. Individuals and increase the strength of society, and the role of employing this theory lies through studying the effectiveness and impact of social media on bringing about positive or negative repercussions on awareness, especially the values of citizenship among Egyptian youth, and the most prominent findings of the researcher are as follows:
1- The daily use of social media has increased, so the duration of five hours or more came in the first place with a rate of 54.3%.
2- Facebook came at the forefront with a rate of 98.16% of the total sample of young people in evaluating the use of social networking networks from the point of view of the young study sample, which was agreed upon by most of the previous studies, whether in the rates of young people using Facebook or the extent of their conviction of the information directed through it, followed directly Video sharing applications Youtube, snap tube, TikTok by 87.4%, which shows the importance of visual content with its persuasive means for young people.
3- The social networking pages did not succeed in convincing the young respondents of the political participation in the political decision-making.
