The Degree of Commitment of Jordanian Journalists to Ethics and Laws of Journalism via Facebook from their Point of View

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the degree of commitment of Jordanian journalists to the ethics and laws of journalism through the means of social media “Facebook”, from their point of view, where the descriptive analytical approach was followed to answer the research questions. The study sample consisted of (206) male and female journalists during the year 2021/2022.The results showed that the degree of commitment of Jordanian journalists to the press ethics and laws while using Facebook is (high). According to ethics, the paragraph “I rely on the principle of dialogue and criticism with comment writers” came first. And the first paragraph regarding the laws, was “committed not to publish information that incites hate speech, terrorism, violence and incitement to sedition”. The study showed there are apparent differences between the arithmetic averages of individuals’ responses to the fields and the total degree of Jordanian journalists’ commitment to the ethics and laws of journalism through the means of social media Facebook from their point of view, according to the variables; gender, academic qualification and years of experience. The study recommended the need for media organizations to focus on holding workshops and lectures on ethics and laws of publishing through various social media, because it has an impact on raising the effectiveness and success of Jordanian journalists. In addition, preparing Jordanian journalists with journalistic ethics and laws through participating journalism graduates in seminars and training courses about these topics.
