The Relationship of University Students' exposure to digital media and their knowledge level of the media education concept

Abstract

The present study drives at identifying the levels of awareness of the Egyptian university students concerning the media education in the era of digital transformation. The study uses the theory of dependence on the media. The study belongs to the descriptive type of studies that is based on the survey method. The study sample consists of (200) male/female students who study in various governmental and private universities (Nile University, October 6 University, Ain Shams University). The research uses the questionnaire form as a tool. The most important results come as follows:
-The responses of the study sample towards the use of media for obtaining information on media education have increased, as (Facebook) comes on top with a relative weight of (83%), followed by (YouTube) in the second place with a relative weight of (77%), As for the responses of the study sample towards using the skills that media education develops for them in the digital media era, as (determining the needs and goals of the student before exposure to the media) comes in the first rank with a relative weight of (88%), Regarding the responses of the study sample towards evaluating the effectiveness of the presented content in media education in the digital media age, (the student’s acquisition of many digital skills) has come at the forefront with a relative weight of (87%).
