The role of social network sites in shaping the attitudes of the Egyptian audience towards societal acceptance of covid-19 vaccines

Abstract

The study aims to reveal the role of social networking sites in shaping the Egyptian public’s attitudes towards societal acceptance of the issue of receiving Covid-19 vaccines through conducting a survey on (400 respondents) of the Egyptian public by applying the assumptions of Cognitive Dissonance theory to identify the impact of conflicting information which included the content of social network sites about the topic of Covid 19 vaccines. The study reached to number of results, one of the most important of them are: -

The density of exposure of the study sample to social networking sites to obtain information about the Covid-19 vaccine. Facebook ranked first among social sites, followed by WhatsApp in second place, and YouTube in third place in terms of exposure density. The most prominent reasons for the intensity of use were the identification of side health effects of receiving the vaccine by (80%) of the study sample.

2- There is a positive statistically significant correlation between the following up of the content of social networks and the levels of cognitive dissonance in the sample of the study. In addition, there is an inverse correlation between the levels of cognitive dissonance in the study sample and the outcome of conflicting information about the Covid-19 vaccine with the content of social networks and audience attitudes towards societal acceptance of it.
3- The credibility of the content of social networks has a significant impact on both levels of cognitive dissonance and attitudes toward societal acceptance of the Covid 19 vaccine in the sample of the study. The correct information about the Covid-19 vaccine is one of the most reliable sources.
4-  The absence of a statistically the economic and social level, the educational level, the residential area of the study sample and each of the levels of cognitive dissonance and trends towards societal acceptance of the Covid-19 vaccine, except for the age group variable in favor of the category (from 40 to 50 years) because they had positive attitudes towards societal acceptance of the Covid-19 vaccine with a higher mean than other age groups.significant correlation between the gender variable,
