The Impact of Exposure to Economic News on Electronic Press Websites During Crises on Citizens' Attitudes Towards حthe Government And Their General Mood:

Abstract

The state’s economic situation is one of the most important contents that receives great attention of media coverage; the recent economic decisions announced by the government on March 21, 2022 to confront the price hike crisis, in addition to the global economic changes due to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis received prominent media attention, especially news Websites.
The results of previous studies indicated that the media coverage provided by newspapers and websites on societal issues - especially the economic one - affects the building of citizens' assessments and attitudes towards the performance of governments, and it also plays a prominent role in managing their public mood.
 the study aims to: "Monitor and analyze the impact of the Egyptian public's follow-up to what the newspapers provide about the recent economic decisions issued by the government in the context of the Ukrainian-Russian global crisis on the state of the general mood of Egyptians, and the nature of their attitudes toward the government, through a quantitative and qualitative analysis of a sample of News and news reports amounted to (763) and published on ten (10) Egyptian websites representing the different trends of the press: national - partisan - and private, in addition to a field study on an Intentional sample of economic news followers consisting of (400) females and males aged between 18 To 55 years old.
The study employed Mood Management Theory and Media Dependency Theory, and used the Elsbach & Barr Scale) 1999 (to measure general mood of publics.
The results revealed an increase in the follow-up of economic news in general, and that the issuance of economic decisions during the Russian-Ukrainian crisis increased the rate of follow-up to this news among Egyptians. The rates of publishing news and news reports of the economic decisions increased on the Al-Masry Al-Youm, followed by Al-Ahram Gate and then al youm al sabea'.
The nature of the attitudes towards the Egyptian government varied between negative and positive, but the positive mood prevailed among the citizens as they expressed their confidence in the government, their support with economic decisions, and their optimism with the state's ability to overcome the current economic situation. And it was proven that there is a positive correlation between the rate of exposure to economic news, the state of the general mood, and the type of attitude towards the government.
