Egyptian youth's dependence on citizen journalism as a source of news and its impact on their acquired political knowledge

Abstract

This study aimed at trying to monitor and describe the nature of the Egyptian youth respondents' dependence on citizen journalism as a source of news and its impact on their acquired political knowledge. In its theoretical framework, the study relied on the theory of "dependence on the media" and the "participatory democratic media" model. The study used the "sampling survey" method. Where the study was applied to a non-probability sample of "400" individuals. Iqsa'a newspaper was used as a tool for data collection in this study, and it showed that citizen journalism as a source of news contributes greatly to the acquisition of political knowledge by the Egyptian youth, the "sample of the study", through its contribution to identifying the internal conditions, developments and current events.With regard to testing its hypotheses, this study concluded that there is a statistically significant correlation between the attitude of the youth "study sample" towards citizen journalism as a source of news and their acquired political knowledge.The study also concluded that reliance on citizen journalism as a source of news contributes to raising the level of political knowledge among Egyptian youth and works to form their opinion towards various political events.
