Abstract

The study aimed to identify the frameworks of the Egyptian press’s handling of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis. This study is one of the descriptive studies that used the survey method in its analytical aspect. The study also used the comparative approach to compare the approaches of the study newspapers represented in: (Al-Ahram, Al-Ahali, Al-Masry Al-Youm); Which was chosen after conducting a survey study for the study sample newspapers in the period from (1/7/2021 to 10/31/2021), to show that the topics of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis that were monitored by the study newspapers were dealt with with remarkable interest, as the treatment showed how to treat It contains the various topics, methods of presenting them and dealing with a set of facts related to the topic by selecting and highlighting certain aspects. The results confirmed that the study papers did not focus on using a single framework in dealing with the crisis, but rather put forward a number of frameworks according to the different stages of the development of the crisis during the study period. Negotiation, cooperation and understanding, and the framework of procrastination, evasion and raising fears among the treatment of the three study papers to varying degrees. The framework of conflict, disagreement, and warning, raising fears, and imposing a de-facto policy recorded its presence on addressing the general issue, while the framework of attack, monopoly, domination and demonstrating the advantages of the dam, and the framework of war dominated. The military’s handling of the Renaissance Dam crisis by Al-Ahram newspaper was represented in crystallizing Ethiopia’s insistence on unilateral filling of the dam without prior agreement with the downstream countries (Egypt and Sudan); The apparent rapprochement between the study newspapers can be explained by reasons due to the similarity of their position towards Ethiopia as a country that has no intention of negotiating seriously, and a desire to fill the dam with an individual Ethiopian initiative.
