Video clips on YouTube channels and their relationship with the participatory culture of university youth

Abstract

The research problem crystallized in identifying the characteristics of participatory videos on YouTube, in addition to determining the relationship between university youth’s use of videos on YouTube and monitoring the repercussions of their use on their participatory culture.
The study belongs to descriptive studies and the study is based on the survey method.
The researcher relied on a deliberate sample for the analytical study in analyzing the content of a three-month program course for three channels on the YouTube platform. The researcher also relied on a deliberate sample for the field study and it consists of (400) individual Egyptian university youth.
the most important findings of the study:
It turns out that the goals of the participatory videos in the three channels were to guide, followed by education and education, and finally character attack.
The results showed that the solicitation used by the producers of participatory video clips in the channels of the study sample, the combination of emotional and logical solicitation, came at the forefront of the methods used, followed by the emotional methods only.
A motive for “entertainment and entertainment, getting rid of boredom, occupying leisure time and escaping from the pressures of daily life and study” came at the forefront of the motives for exposure to YouTube channels, followed by the motive “it gives me more information than what is published by traditional media.” On the other hand, the motive happened “that The videos do not contain advertisements, and they can be blocked if any.
