The role of tv talk show and social networking sites in shaping the attitudes of young people towards issues of public opinion

Abstract

The study was titled “The Role of TV Opinion Programs and Social Media Sites in Shaping Youth Attitudes Toward Public Opinion Issues” within the framework of the Breaking the Silence model. The study was conducted on a single sample of (100) young people of the age of (18:35) from different educational levels. By designing a questionnaire, the study reached many results, the most important of which are:
The researcher found that 48% of the respondents always watch TV opinion programs (traditional media), and the television opinion programs that the sample members are keen to watch came in the following order. With a rate of 65%, Ali, My Responsibility, on the Sada Al Balad channel, came in third place with a rate of 53%, then the DMC evening program came in fourth place by 41%, while the percentage of viewership of many of these programs decreased, and in the last place came a program with paper and pen, and the viewership did not exceed 3%. One of the most important reasons for following up on television opinion programs was (continuing to form a personal opinion on current issues) with relative weight that reached (77.3).The study found that these programs present the official opinion television programs only with a relative weight reaching (98.7). It also found that these programs lack a margin of freedom with a relative weight reaching (88) .. The study also found that young people use websites Social communication (new media) permanently (96%), and the applications that young people are keen to follow are as follows:

"Whatsapp" came in first place with 98%, then "facebook" in second place with 96%, then Instagram ranked third with 86%, and YouTube ranked fourth with 76%. The pages that young people prefer to follow on social networking sites came on me. As follows: the official page of Al-Youm Al-Sabea newspaper by 92%, then the official page in the name of the Presidency of the Republic by 87%, then the official page in the name of the Council of Ministers by 73%, and the page of Russia Today came by 12%. By 9% of the respondents. The study monitored a follow-up of some hostile channels such as the two channels, "Makmaleen, Al Sharq", with a rate of 9% of the sample. The study found a great interest from the respondents in following up on social media pages for discussing public opinion issues, at a rate of 65%. 59% of the respondents discussed to a large extent. On the issues they follow on social media, (59%).The most important issues that youth follow through on social media are as follows: Coronavirus came in first place with a relative weight (98.7), then the educational system came in second place with a relative weight of (88), then slum development came in third place with relative weight (84) Then the road network development came in fourth place with a relative weight (80). The study found that up to 92% of the sample individuals insult people with dissenting opinions, and that about 40% of the sample members try to persuade others of their opinion permanently. Some of the respondents try to express their opinions through the pages that reflect the state’s opinion through like, share, comment, hashtag.
The study also found that there is a correlation between the extent of youth discussion on social media of the issues they encounter on television, and their formation of attitudes about those issues.
The study also found statistically significant differences between youth attitudes towards public opinion issues in demographic variables (gender, age, income, educational level).
