Recent trends in research on the use of digital media by the youth

Abstract

The study is premised on the reality and importance of the topic of digital media, and the importance of the youth group who represent the highest number of users of technology according to the results of relevant and recent studies concerned with youth or teenagers. The study addresses the topic by analyzing and interpreting the results of Arab and international studies conducted during the last five years (from 2016 to 2020), on the many areas covered by digital media, which are available on the Internet.
Objectives of the study:

Monitor and analyze Arab and foreign research in the field of youth use of digital media.
Reveal the topics covered by Arab and foreign studies in the field of youth use of digital media, in terms of their direction and nature of their coverage.
Determine the theoretical frameworks used by both Arab and foreign studies
Monitor, analyze and interpret the methodological frameworks used, the types of studies, the tools used, the research communities included, the samples, their types and numbers, and their selection methods for Arab and foreign research in the context of the youth's use of digital media.
Foresee future trends, through the study's findings regarding Arab and foreign research.

Methodology used: The study uses Meta-Analysis.
Study population and sources:The study population includes Arab and foreign research published on the Internet from 2016 to 2020 on youth use of digital media, through scientific journals specialized in media and social sciences.
Terminology used in the study:
Youth: The stage of youth in research is determined by the age stage, according to what is defined by the United Nations, which defines "youth" as persons between the ages of 15 and 24 years. This is what the study uses in analysis, interpretation and criticism.
Digital media: It is the media process that depends on an electronic communication system that allows the production, circulation, transfer, exchange, preservation, and dissemination of information, media and advertising materials, read, audio, and visual using text, images, static and animated graphics, sound, and video through the means, methods, applications, and websites that allow the user to interact and participate using the Internet.
