Talk show programs presenting female leadership performance and its relation to women attitudes towards political empowerment of women

Abstract

The issue of political empowerment of women has gained local and international attention in the last decades and matches with Egypt vision 2030 and political leadership plans which aims to integrate women into political life and competing against any discrimination or marginalization that may be practiced against women in the promotion to senior and leadership positions,
 This study aims to identify how the female ministers(minister of health and minister of social solidarity) issues are treated in Egyptian talk show programs in channels (Alhayah, ten and dmc)  and its effects on viewers’ attitudes towards partial performance (ministers performance) andto the whole performance which is political empowerment of women.
This study depends on the priming theory (on the Salient Issues) and adopted media survey on a sample of female Egyptian viewers, was applied on 400 Egyptian respondents Over 18 years old, who watched these (purposive sample).
The most important results:
Regarding the findings of the field study it indicated,
1- that the respondents’ evaluation to the political empowerment of women in Egypt: firstly, the Egyptian women proved they are efficient in leadership positions, secondly their opinionof leadership women performance was notaffected by gender which reflect their awareness and nonbiased evaluation, finally the female ministers’ performance is less than male ministers, which reflects their faith in pushing women towards higher governmental positions.
2-Their attitudes towards political empowerment of women (in general): firstly, they support the women in leadership positions, secondly, they think that women play an important role in empowerment by raising her children, finally they believe empowerment is a gift from government, this reflects the level of awareness about women’ rights in holding senior government and political decision-making positions.
The Findings of Hypothesis testing showed that:
1- There was a statistical correlation between the respondent’ sexposure to female ministers’ performance in talk shows and their positive evaluation towardspolitical empowerment of women.
2- There was a statistical correlation between the respondent’s evaluation to the partial performance (minster of health and minster of social solidarity) and their positive evaluation of the of political empowerment of women.
