Academic qualification for students of media departments and colleges in accordance with the requirements of the labor market in the digital age

Abstract

- The academic qualification of Egyptian governmental and private Mass Communication departments and faculties students is the first building block for the graduation of communicators in various journalistic, radio and television, public relations, advertising, websites and social media platforms majors.
-   The study covered the monitoring and evaluation of the academic qualification of Egyptian governmental and private Mass Communication departments and faculties students and determining their suitability to the requirements of the changing labor market, in addition to submitting proposals to update the Mass Communication academic regulations in order to reach a graduate who is able to keep pace with the labor market in the context of the clear change in the form of the new media.
-  The study is a descriptive research and relied on the sample survey method for the community of students and graduates of the Egyptian governmental and private Mass Communication departments and faculties and the community of experts and workers in the Mass Media field. The total sample of respondents reached 620 respondents, including 363 students, 156 graduates, and 101 experts covering all media fields.
-          The results showed the great importance of mastering technology as the most important skill required for the labor market in the digital age, and that the new specifications for Mass Communication graduates include the necessity of mastering the use of communication technology in the media field and familiarity with the needs and changing requirements of the new media job market.
-   The study recommended the need to pay attention to developing academic qualification, especially in governmental Mass Communication departments and faculties, in line with the real needs of the labor market, and the results indicated the increasing importance of studying modern technology in the field of media, which requires adding new academic courses that are more in line with technical develo
- The study also proposed courses appropriate to the concept of “Media Convergence Theory” on which the study relied in its theoretical framework and employed it for the first time in studying the topic of academic qualification.
